Formally known as Kabalega National Game Park, Murchison falls majestically stands as Uganda's largest and oldest Game Park, it was first gazetted in 1926. The park is found at the North West part of the country and lies on the Albertine rift valley, where the sweeping Bunyoro Escarpment tumbles beautifully through the vast palm dotted savanna. It hosts over 76 species of mammals and a whopping 451 bird species. Victoria Nile bisects the park and plunges over 45m over the remnant rift valley wall, creating a spectacular dramatic powerful falls and stretches another 80km in rapids. The falls is a center of attraction of the park and is not to be missed. The mighty cascade drains the last of the river's energy, turning it into a broad, placid stream that flows quietly and peacefully across the rift valley floor into Lake Albert. This stretch of the river provides one of Uganda's most remarkable wildlife spectacles. Regular visitors to the river bank include but not limited to; water bucks, Elephants, Giraffes, Buffaloes and almost endemic Uganda Kobs; while the Nile crocodiles, Hippopotamus and the aquatic birds such as fish eagle, the elusive shoe bill stork are permanent residents.
